‘Twas the night before Christmas
and out on the courts,
were all types of people in tennies and shorts.
All of them beaming and shouting with joy,
Happy as children with a new Christmas toy.
Out of their bags, colorful paddles appeared
To the kitchen they scurried, lined up, and cheered
’Let’s dink it and drop it, let’s volley and kill’
The balls started bouncing as if without will,
The sound from the paddles and balls as they rose
Moved all of the players to the tips of their toes
Cross court and forward, balls started to fly
When appeared an old player with a wink in his eye
Dressed all in red from his head to his toe
A smile on his face and a warm, cheery glow
’0 0 2’ he shouted as he served me the ball
He moved like the wind, barely saw him at all
Then all of a sudden, it was 11 to 0
As we lightly touched paddles, he said he must go
Before I asked where, he disappeared in a haze
But I heard his farewell while still in my daze
Keep playing and laughing and having your fun!
Merry Pickleball to all, my work here is done.

More of in the News
Printed in the Spectrum:
CASA GRANDE — An equipment manufacturer has contributed funds
that will allow for a national professional pickleball tournament in Casa
Grande next week to have a $50,000 incentive prize pool for the first time.
Idaho-based Selkirk Sport, the manufacturer of high-performance
paddles for pickleball, has announced the formation of the sport’s first-ever
player incentive pool program. That means $50,000 in prize money will be up for
grabs for players using the company’s paddles at the USAPA National
Championships Nov. 4-12 at the Palm Creek Golf and RV Resort in Casa Grande.
Selkirk Sport has pledged more than $150,000 in prize money for
nationwide tournament play on the 2018 professional pickleball circuit.
According to a company press release, the pool program was
created to incentivize athletes to compete with their paddles. In the Casa
Grande tourney, there will be a $3,500 top prize if a player wins the National
Men’s, National Women’s or Mixed Open Division with a Selkirk paddle. The
runner-up in those respective divisions can win $2,000, with $500 going to the
third place finisher. Players must enroll in the Selkirk incentive pool program
to be eligible for prize money.
Ranked pickleball players Ty McGuffin, Morgan Evans, Tonja Major
and Glen Peterson will lead a team of Selkirk staff players equipped with
Selkirk’s new AMPED Series paddle as they compete at Nationals.
“We are committed to investing in the growth of
the sport at the professional level, which we believe will drive growth at the
grassroots level,” said Mike Barnes, operations manager for Selkirk Sport.
“While our ultimate goal is to develop a more traditional endorsement model
customary in mainstream sports such as tennis or golf, we see this incentive
program as a launching pad to validate the performance attributes of our
products while driving excitement among the elite players

International Competition.....
Bainbridge Cup History written by IFP
Bainbridge Island – Pickleball’s Birthplace
It was on Bainbridge Island (known as Bainbridge by the locals) where Joel Pritchard, Barney McCallum and Bill Bell created the sport we know today as pickleball. While residing at Bainbridge in the summer of 1965, the three founders collaborated to create and design a new racquet sport that everyone could play and enjoy. Thus the name “Bainbridge Cup” was chosen to pay tribute to both the founding fathers and the birthplace of pickleball – the origins of a sport that is now played by millions of people around the world
Team North America competed against Team Europe on a global stage in Madrid, Spain on September 15th. The inaugural Bainbridge Cup is hosted by the International Federation of Pickleball. This event was unique in that included all ages and skill levels
North American (USA/Canada) had 200 wins and Europe had 102
Team North America took home the Bainbridge Cup for 2017!
