Pickleball Courts

Come and learn how to be a referee. If you have not refereed before, we ask that you attend both sessions.

Palm Creek Pickleball Club offers a certification program which qualifies you to referee in  all sanctioned tournaments. Our club needs good referees for our two Palm Creek tournaments.

Come and learn another aspect of this wonderful game and have fun doing it. You do not have to be a good player to be a good referee.

The requirements for certification are: 1. Attend both sessions. 2. Get a USAPA Rule Book and know the rules. 3. Referee 12 games before our in-house tournament, three of which must be with a “Referee Mentor” assigned to you. 4.Take the USAPA Referee Test and get no more than 3 wrong. It is an open book test, so you can look up the answers. You will receive a certificate of completion and a Palm Creek Referee Badge.

Palm Creek Pickleball Club needs you.

Clinic put on by Tom & Jeanne Gearhart.  Site 389  Phone #6389

(Sign up on the Referee Sign Up Sheet on the Round Robin Board.)

(Tom Gearhart and Irene Fraties serve on a USAPA Referee Committee.  Our mission is to come up with a USAPA Referee Certification Program. I can tell you that if this program is adopted before Jan. 6th then we will teach that program and you will become USAPA Certified. The program we are teaching now will be very close to the one being discussed by our committee.)

Time To Be Creative

Help Us Rename the Annual Tournament
                                    Submitted By:  Bob VanderLinden

- Submit a Catchy, Exciting, Unique name that represents our premier senior tournament and our premier resort.

The Annual Tournament is not only our Club's premier pickleball tournament it is one of the largest in the country and the only Tier 2 sanctioned tournament run by a club.  But the name boring and mundane!

The Board and the Tournament Committee would like to spice it up and find an identifiable name that can represent our tournament out into the future.   We would like your help coming up with a memorable, distinctive name that exemplifies our premier tournament.  We need to move ahead quickly, so will have a deadline of 2 weeks.

Deadline for Submittals:  Midnight Dec 31st.  The Board will make a final decision shortly after Jan 1.
Email to:   pickleballpalmcreek@gmail.com
Subject Line:  New Name

Please put on your imagination hats and submit as many names as you want by the end of 2014!  Any and all submittals are encouraged.

There will be a fantabulous prize!

The Summer of 2014

Club members have been active from the beginning to the end of the summer season. These are just a few of the many, who in our off season continue to promote and grow our sport, as well as give us our sense of community.

Orla Wanless

Orla serves on the court usage committee. In order to make informed recommendations for organized play, he undertook the huge task of comparing paid memberships from 2013-2014.

Chuck MacDonald

All summer long, Chuck did a great job of keeping us informed on what he has Captioned "Alumni News" on Facebook

Palm Creek Pickleball Club on Facebook

Avis and Larry Gray
The Gray's took on the task of being Palm Creek's coordinators for Summer Inter-community  play with Mission Royale and Robson Ranch, Avis sent us pictures and details of the group throughout the summer, to remind us, of what a good time players have year round at Palm Creek.  Larry took charge of court cleaning to insure that all could have a safe and fun time.

Sally Dobson
Sally put her energy into Sun City Allante's new courts, the first courts in North Las Vegas and promoting the Nevada State Senior Games. In a later post you will see who from Palm Creek won a medal.

A.J. Fraties

Karen Fellows

Les Scott
Irene Fraties
Several club members for the past few years have been on a mission to make Bend, OR, the summer destination for Palm Creeker's. Take a look at their blog, it becomes clear that they are following the same blue print that they helped create at Palm Creek.
                                                http://www.bendpickleballclub.com/

Tom and Ann Earley
Tom and Ann are the poster children for "pickleball addiction".  They built 6 new pickleball courts at their  home in Georgia. These courts are listed under places to play on the USAPA website and open to players all season.   For the eighth time they hosted the "Summers Last Blast Annual Tournament". In addition to all pre-tournament requirements, they  clean courts and stripe lines for parking, Players are invited the day before the tournament, to practice and for open play and non- playing "significant others" are invited use the pool. The Earley's than provide a catered Mexican buffet and entertainment for the evening. On the first day of the tournament, opening ceremonies include the Creekview High School band and the Cadets of the Sky Leadership Camp featuring Fort Blitz academy.  Each group is presented with a $500 check for student scholarship. It was than announced that checks will be given to the Cherokee Humane Society and Sheriff Joe Arpaio MASH No Kill Shelter each in the amount of $2,000. The 2 day tournament this year had 90+ players of which half, traveled from out of state, including 17 USAPA ambassadors. They also had members of the volunteer fire department present as well as vendors and catered lunches.  They are now planning their last event of the season, Final game of the season will be played in Halloween Costumes, followed by a Chili-Cook -Off.

In Memorium Marion Gavin - August 26, 2014

Marion Gavin
Marion will be remembered by many . First and foremost she was the beloved companion of Jerry Anderson, a mother to 4 children and a grandmother to 9 grandchildren.
Marion has resided at Palm Creek for 9+ years. Her home has been perfectly situated for pet walkers, neighbors, and fellow club members to stop and chat.
Marion enjoyed playing Pickleball, Tennis, Water Volleyball and Horseshoes.   She had been a  tournament winner in both Pickleball and Tennis.  Google tells us, in 2010 Marion was also a raffle winner! For the past six years, Marion has been a bartender at Robson Ranch. In 2009 she organized a "Pasta Dinner" at Robson for club members, photos of this event can be found on this Blog in the "Pickleball Photo Album"
"Pasta Night".
Marion will be missed at Palm Creek.  Our condolences to her family and loved ones.
