FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER OF PALM CREEK

I wanted to take a moment to thank the Pickleball Club for their generous donation to the Cancer Awareness program. One of the great pleasures of being the General Manager of Palm Creek the past 4 seasons is having the opportunity to make a difference in the community by encouraging the staff, residents and guests to participate in programs such as this. Although the business side of this job has been stimulating it pales in comparison to the personnel satisfaction of doing good deeds for others. Please convey my heart felt appreciation for your group’s stellar effort.

Regards

Wendell Johnson

HELP IS NEEDED

This week BINGO has been moved to Sunday 3/28 - we need Male volunteers to assist in putting away tables after the games (we have been told that we have enough women to put away the chairs)

See you at the Ballroom - 9:00 PM

Thanks To My Board of Directors

A personal note... I have been involved with many organizations over the years, and have often worked with their Boards....an opportunity that can be good or not-so-good. This particular Board...consisting of Steve Arthur, LeRoy and Barb Schmidt, Donna Christensen, Audrey Hill and its advisers Tom and Jeanne Gearhart and (less officially) Irene Fraties and Rosemary Reese, have tirelessly volunteered countless hours all year on the club's behalf and have been creative, opinionated and challenging. They, as a group, rank among the very best Boards we have seen. It has been a privilege to serve your club with them, and if you feel similarly about them, when you see them, please tell them so.

A. J. Fraties, President

A BIG THANK YOU TO THE TOURNAMENT COMMITTEE AND ALL THE VOLUNTEERS

Our thanks to Donna Christiansen and her team for keeping all the events moving

Andy Schmaltz who once again numbered the matches for us

Tom and Jeanne Gearhart for running the Ref board and all the referee's who volunteered, without them we could not have had this tournament - the ever ready lines people who were steadfast in watching the lines during medal matches

Michael Hill who started the coffee every morning at 5:00 AM and was a “jack of all trades”

Edie Preis and Bobbi Jo Gregor and their French Chef team for all the great food and drinks every day (one of the big raves about our tournament) (lots of variety and very, very good tasting)

Laurel Wineinger and her photographers who tirelessly photographed the action

Ann Arthur and her raffle committee for all their tireless work they did before the tournament and then getting all the money for charity during the actual tournament (over 150 prizes and about $2000 in money {no final totals yet}).

Last but not least – Thank you to Morgan Robins and his team for getting everything setup and taken down

We had 209 players participate in the 7th Annual Palm Creek Pickleball Tournament.

There were 344 matches, 563 games, and we awarded 150 medals.

Thanks again for everyone who helped - without you we could not have had a fun and successful tournament

Portable Net Update from the USAPA

There has been a delay while we are requesting some design improvements.
We placed an initial order for 100 units and those sold out quickly. While those nets are are the best solution for a lightweight, inexpensive portable net for pickleball that we have seen, we still think that the design could be improved. We have been negotiating those improvements with the factory since the beginning of the year. It has been a struggle with some delay of getting the improvements through the engineers at the factory. We are now very close and expect to have a sample within ten days.Once the order is placed, it takes about 3 months for production and shipping from Taiwan. We regret the delay, but think that we will all be better off in the long run with the improvements.

If you have an immediate need, you might prefer one of the solutions in this link:http://usapa.org/construction/portable_netstands.html

If you think that you will still be needing portable nets on the above schedule, please reply with an estimate of the number of units. It is not a commitment on your part, just something to help us estimate future requirements.

Thank you,
Bill BoothPresident, USAPA

Delisimo!!!

Participants in this years annual tournament enjoyed an Italian Feast under the stars thanks to the Tennis Club.

Yes, you read that correctly! The Tennis Club prepared and served a complete Italian dinner, Saturday evening for participants in our 7th Annual Pickleball Tournament.

The food was absolutely delicious and plentiful, there were those who eagerly awaited for the call to come for second helpings (athletes do have good appetites).

The Tennis Club members were very gracious and made each and everyone of us feel very special.

It is this type of camaraderie that the Tennis Club offers, that makes Palm Creek such a special place to stay and to live.

Thanks to all of you for your support and fellowship, not to mention the GREAT DINNER!
